It's A New Concert
By Morris Heldt
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. Winston Churchill 20 Aug. 1940
Watching, and reading, some American Journalists report on our efforts to help free the people of Iraq, and make our country safer, is not unlike being told that I have just received tickets for the next Elvis Presley, or Frank Sinatra concert. I can not help but think if many of these journalists reported on World War II, I would be speaking and writing in German, unless of course I was Jewish, then I probably wouldn't even be here today. It amazes me how many American journalists put their "political correct reporting" before their loyalty to their own country. I have heard, many times, how it is incorrect of an American journalist to say, our troops have advanced, or, our troops have accomplished something. I do not understand the difficulty in reporting the truth, but still being loyal to your country. How are they exclusive from one another?
I suggest some TV networks and print journalists have self-motivated agendas. They work for corporations that deal with international consumers, and consequently these media companies do not want to offend a percentage of their business. And, then too, there are some journalists that are looking to be the next Bob Woodward, or Carl Bernstein, looking to expose a big story, or cover-up, which will bring them personal fame and fortune. However you want to explain it, it seems to me there are more than a few American journalists that don't seem to be proud to be Americans. I suppose they regard themselves as more of an Internationalist. Perhaps these new journalists need to review the likes of Edward R. Murrow, and Eric Severide. I believe they kept their integrity as journalists, and maintained their self-respect as citizens.
I am one American that is proud to be one. I am very grateful for every soldier, man, and woman, who is fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi people, and the continued safeguard of my country. Yes, I said MY COUNTRY, the United States of America. This is not a war between two governments; this is a war of good overcoming evil. Many people in America had better wake up to that. It is a new day in history. It is not Viet Nam, with rhetoric by political ambitious leaders who became mired down with their own egos, and used the old scare tactics of watch out for the Red Boggy Man. In this new day, the battlefield can very easily be your local mall. A terrorist detonates a nuclear explosion, and in their mind kills many of their enemies.
A disgrace has fallen on the shoulders of many good Americans simply because they have been caught up in their theoretical political correct movement. I support the right for every man, woman, and child to demonstrate and speak his, or her mind. That is the beauty of America. However, it is not the right of protesters to cause civil unrest, causing a hardship on people that do not think as they do. After all, is that not hypocritical . . . is that not what they are yelling that is being done to them? This same mentality chose to close their eyes in the beginning of World War II when Hitler was exterminating the Jews. In many cases, these good-hearted people have been victimized by the old Marxist rhetoric about one people, one nation equals happiness in all minds. This governing simply does not, and has never worked.
It is surprising when speaking to many of these people they are without knowledge of why they are protesting. Most do not believe this is a war about good and evil. They merely want a Democratic president, a free society, and to be able to do what they want, when they want. Without even considering the possibility that the preemptive attack on Saddam Hussein might help the majority of the world to continue to live in freedom, they, like some countries, condemn our president which gives more power to any evil dictator. However, our president, and our country, will be victorious. Unlike millions of people worldwide the majority of Americans will not accept a brutal, and blood thirsty regime, which has been known to slaughter their own people as if they were soulless animals. Nor will our president jeopardize our country and wait until Saddam Hussein sells a nuclear device, or orchestrates a terrorist attack on us, that will murder thousands of innocent Americans. Unlike the Jews, in the early part of Hitler's quest, who blindly watched and waited, President George W. Bush sees the oven doors opening.
I suggest that many protesters are blind to the future, and still think of the world as a 1960's playground for protesting, (like glamorized in the movies), and some accept the opinions, without question, of the rich and self-ordained chosen Hollywood Liberals. Wake up! I pray, for all of us, that Winston Churchill's words of August 20, 1940 will ring true again. However, I also know it is a new concert in time: Not country versus country, but good versus evil in this world, and only the strong, with unwavering faith, will survive. Elvis indeed, has left the building.

I dedicate this essay to SPC JONATHAN WESLEY BRUNGER-WOOD, who is proudly serving in Iraq, and his father, JEFF WOOD, who is serving in South Korea. I thank both of them for their service, and praise them for the men that they are.
